Summary: A discounted pack of 6 copies of the paperback NEW LIGHT BIBLE STORIES selection for use in schools or groups alongside the Teacher's Edition. This is the only children's Bible story book to use an actual Bible translation (the NIrV known as the NEW LIGHT BIBLE) rather than a paraphrase or retelling. It includes the favourites: Noah & the Ark, Joseph & His Brothers, David & Goliath, Daniel in the Lions' Den, The Three Wise Men, The Good Samaritan, The Loving Father, and The Road to Easter. This edition accompanies the large format Teacher's Edition, allowing children from the age of 6 years to follow these stories as their teacher reads, or to read for themselves at home. Perfect for reading aloud to younger children. Edited by experienced children's writer Jean Watson, and beautifully illustrated by children's artist Susan Wintringham.
About the Author: THE TRANSLATION:
The New International Reader's Version (NIrV) was translated by a team of Bible scholars and educationalists based in the USA, most of whom also worked on the NIV. Anglicised by Dr Martin Selman from Spurgeon's College, London. Abridged by Jean Watson.
THE ILLUSTRATOR:
Susan Wintringham was educated at the Bath Academy of Art. Her distinctive technique of monoprint and drypoint creates richly textured pictures with strong, bold patterns and is both unusual and striking. Susan is a volunteer at the Hot Bed Press Studios in Salford and regularly leads local workshops in printmaking, bookbinding and illustration.
Reviews:
The great strength of the New Light Bible is the ability to combine a scholarly translation with a modern and accessible style. The translators have successfully managed to use short sentence structures, and wherever possible have simplified the terminology, whilst maintaining the accuracy and poetry of the text. This makes it an ideal translation to use with young people ... John Logan, Director, BFSS National RE Centre, Bru This is a significant new Bible version offering an easy-to-read and accurate text. Sentences are short and simple in structure. Wherever possible, short and simple words are preferred to long and technical ones... Dr Debra Reid, Tutor in Old Testament and Open Lea Excellent presentation and clear readable print. The language is appropriate for young children; reasonable readers from 6 to 7 years old could read and cope with it... R Braund, Head Teacher, St Mary's CE Primary Schoo
